Track index and glossary xrefs, control vocab with thesaurus compiler

May I recommend to you a Windows program called TheW32 that allows you to
create a list of preferred and non-preferred terms?  You can use it as a
vocabulary checklist to direct writers from deprecated terms to preferred
terms in the body of text, and as a checklist to make sure all your index
and glossary internal xrefs have targets.

A thesaurus can tell you what xrefs are pointing towards a particular
preferred term, as well as away from a non-preferred term.  For example,

     adjustable value
          FROM undeducted cost

has the inverse entry

     undeducted cost
          PREFER adjustable value

You can also have a much richer set of 'See also' typeS of xrefs:

     depreciation method
          NARROWER  diminishing-value method
          NARROWER  prime-cost method

also has the corresponding

     diminishing-value method
          BROADER   depreciation method

     prime-cost method
          BROADER   depreciatoin method

You can also make up your own kinds of xrefs:

     accounts list
          OLDER     chart of accounts

     chart of accounts
          NEWER     accounts list

And of course the good old vanilla 'See also' siblings:

     expense
          RELATED   purchase

     purchase
          RELATED   expense
