Aha. You really should convert those RTF files to Frame format before
putting them in your book. That's probably where your problems come
from. There's a reason Frame keeps whining at you when you put non-
Frame files into your book. :-)
All the other problems you describe can well be caused by non-Frame
files in your book, although sometimes a generate/update will fail
if the Frame file has font problems or unresolved cross-references.
Opening the files in question, and leaving them open during the
update, is a temporary workaround.
