Subject: Running Footer for multi-file template

Hi,
I have to revise some doc templates and am stuck on one thing (so far)...
The same template is used for the chapter files, appendix files, and
preface file.
On the right master page, the Running H/F is defined as follows:
<$paranum[C0_Chap Num]><$paranum[C0a_App Num]>: <$paratext[C1_Chap/App
Title]><$paratext[C2_Pre/Con/Ix Title]>
This works beautifully for the chapters and appendices, producing a footer
that looks like:
Chapter 3: Tdfljlk Uhkjdhjfhds
However, because the preface does not contain C0_Chap Num or C0a_App Num
paragraphs, nothing is returned for the corresponding $paranum and the
footer is generated as follows:
: Preface
I think this looks tacky with the "standalone" colon in front of "Preface".
Is there any way I can redefine the variable so that the colon only prints
when there is a non-null paranum returned?
Thanks in advance,
Ada Lai
