| 1. The titles in the toc in my document are not generated in order. The
| first Heading 2 in the chapter toc appears before the heading one (the
| chapter title). It looks like this:
|
| Heading 2
| Chapter 1: blah blah
| Heading 2
| Heading 2
|
| The style for heading one in this document is in a table row. Could this be
| causing the problem?
YES. The table is processed AFTER the content of the regular text flow for
the page. So, if the Heading 1 (chapter title) is in a table and on the same
page is the first Heading 2, you would get the ordering you describe.
| 2.I am trying to format a TOC that has chapter numbers and letters (chapter
| 1, appendix A). I am using the building block <$paranumonly> in the
| reference page of the TOC so that the numbers will be included in the
| chapter titles automatically. Is there a building block I can use for
| letters, so that, it will generate titles like Appendix A automatically?
Assuming that you are using FM's autonumbering system to generate both the
words "Chapter" or "Appendix" (fixed text entries in the numbering dialog)
and the number/letter that follows, you can use the <$paranum> building
block, which will pull out both the words and generated values.
A "paranum" is NOT only numbers, but anything created by FrameMaker's
autonumbering feature, including fixed text, embedded punctuation (e.g.,
dashes or periods).
A "paranumonly" is very similar, but excludes prefix or suffix text, such
that it only includes data from the first building block to the last
building block; embedded puctuation will be displayed.
For example, if you have a second level heading with the autonumbering
format:
Heading <n>.<n>.<a+>.
The $paranum construct will show something like: Heading 2.3.b.
but the $paranumonly construct would show only: 2.3.b
